This has been a family home for 6 years. A village house at the top of the hill, and at foot of the cliff. The house is 500 years old, full of character, with beamed ceilings and original features; it is built on 6 floors connected by a central staircase that winds up through the house. The house has two entrance doors, one at the bottom at the front of the house on Rue Plan Giraud, and another three floors above on another road. The upper entrance is the one we have used mostly, it is where there is a bell and the post box.
A large modern fully equipped kitchen at the very top of the house, beautifully light and airy, with a raised cushioned double day bed to regard the views and a large terrace with spectacular views of Cotignac rooftops and a dramatic landscape spreading out for some 30 miles. There is a folding wall of wooden doors that allow the kitchen to open completely onto the terrace and outdoors. There are three windows to ensure a cooling airflow in summer.
Two large newly redecorated double bedrooms each with new modern en suite WC and shower rooms. A third bedroom with a three quarter bed and separate shower room.
A comfortable salon/living room with book and DVD library and TV. This room has a large Wood burning glass fronted stove for the winter that heats the top section of the house (satellite currently with UK TV channels and radio).
At the upper entrance, there is a large utility room with washing machine, storage and utility washbasin.
For long term rentals, there is a separate locked artist’s studio at the base of the house, equipped with a ceramic kiln which can be made available.
There is a store cave for wine, wood and provisions.
The house is fitted with electric heaters in each room.
There is an air conditioning unit for the top kitchen floor, but we have had no cause to use it with the top terrace wall open during the summer. The house is equipped with two hot water boilers that reheat at night.
Telephones and internet are connected and billing for these facilities if needed by the people renting is to be discussed.
It is possible to approach the house at both entrances by car, but parking is not directly outside. There are two car parks a few minutes walk from the house.
There is a stunning private ‘cabanon’ very large garden that comes with the house. Situated 5 km away from Cotignac, next to the village of Montfort, it has 50 yards of private hidden stepped river bank terraces and beautiful secluded swimming river, with its own small waterfall plus shallow areas for children and a deeper area for adults to swim.
Long term lets are available at 1400€uros per month plus charges.
